MITIE launches £10 million fund to back entrepreneurial start-ups

MITIE plc, the FTSE 250 listed strategic outsourcing and energy services company, has announced its intention to back entrepreneurial start-ups in facilities management, energy and property sectors with a £10 million fund, Executive Board Director and back office support. The company is to host a 'MITIE Millions' "Dragons Den" style pitching event on 28th May 2012 in London. Closing date for applications is 30th April.

Indian firm looks set to snap up stricken Peacocks business

The Times newspaper reported on 14th February 2012 that Mumbai-based firm S Kumars Nationwide (SKNL) looks set to acquire the Peacocks chain of clothing stores that fell into administration in January 2012. SKNL is one of India's leading textile and apparel companies with expertise in multi-fiber manufacturing.

Bloomsbury Publishing to set up in India

Bloomsbury today (14th February 2012) announced that it is setting up a new business in India to take advantage of the country's rapidly increasing population where 50 million buy English books every year. It believes that India is an excellent market for its diverse product range.

Analjit Singh becomes Chairman of Vodafone India

Vodafone announced today that Analjit Singh is to be appointed non-executive Chairman of Vodafone India from 16 February 2012, following formal approval from the Board of Vodafone India. Analjit Singh is a leading industry figure in India. He is the Founder and Chairman of Max India Limited and a Director on the board of several leading Indian companies.

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in India up 25% in 2011

Foreign investors see India as an attractive investment option according to Ernst & Young’s 2012 Indian Attractiveness Survey. The overall number of FDI projects increased by 25% to 864 (valued at US$ 50,813 million) in the 11 months to November, up from 691 projects (at US$ 44,874 million) in 2010.

Landmark decision in India gives foreign investors greater tax certainty

In a landmark decision by India’s Supreme Court today (20th January 2012), Vodafone won its case against the Indian tax authorities, who had been asserting that the company had an Indian tax liability of $2.2bn as a result of its $11.2bn acquisition of Hutchison Telecom’s 67% stake in an Indian joint venture company in 2007.
