Manchester to host the
first ever English Curry Awards
25th July 2011
The
first ever English Curry Awards 2011, that aim to
celebrate the nation's love for spicy food, will
be hosted in Manchester on 25th July 2011. The ceremony
has already become an institution in Scotland where
The Scottish Curry Awards are now in their fourth
year. The English version of the event will be a
platform to showcase and reward chefs, restaurants,
takeaways, supermarkets and individuals for their
dedication and hard work in promoting curry cuisine
and the food industry.
Manchester has been picked
as the number one location to host the ceremony
due to its famous affection for the spicy food.
The city sports the famous ''curry mile",
pioneered by 'Shere Khan' the restaurant and food
brand set up by Nighat Awan OBE and her husband.
The 'curry mile' boasts the largest concentration
of Asian restaurants in the UK and attracts over
65,000 diners to the Rusholme area each week.
Yasmin Mahmood, Campaign
Manager for the awards thinks the choice of city
is perfect, she said: "It's undeniably the
best place to host the English Curry Awards. The
Mancunians are well-known for being curry lovers;
the city has countless top class restaurants and
takeaways on its world famous curry mile. Since
the Scottish Curry Awards have thrived year after
year, it's definitely about time to platform England's
love of the dish too in this debut event!"
Last year, the Scottish Curry
Awards received over 5000 nominations with 700
guests attending the ceremony. Nominations for
the English Curry Awards 2011 open on the 11th
of April and will close on the 1st of July 2011.
