by the Government of India. Dhiren was the
youngest of 20 non-resident Indians (NRIs)

for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, inaugurated
the King's India Institute on Indian Republic
Day (26th January 2012) with a keynote speech
in which he emphasized the growing importance
of UK-India bilateral relations; and congratulated
King's College, London in launching the new
institute.

in Education' a key theme at LWF12 |
 'Innovation
in Education' was the theme of a talk by author
and strategist Charles Leadbetter at this
year's Learning Without Frontiers 2012 Conference
and Festival that took place at Kensington
Olympia, London from 25th - 26th January 2012.
It became a key strand at the event which
is a global platform for disruptive thinkers,
innovators and practitioners to share knowledge,
ideas and experiences about learning.

| Sewa Day
2012 selected as a Queen's Diamond Jubilee
event |
 Sewa
Day, to be held on 7th October 2012, has been
selected as a Queen's Diamond Jubilee event
through an initiative called "A Year
of Service". Every month this year, each
of the major faith communities will in turn
host a day of volunteering in communities.
Each day will have a theme, such as visiting
the elderly, feeding the hungry or planting
trees. The Sewa Day theme will be "Helping
the Homeless".

behind hit film 'Slumdog Millionaire' |
 Tessa
Ross, Controller of Film and Drama at Channel
4, yesterday (18th January 2012) explained
how the movie 'Slumdog Millionaire' came to
be made to members of her alma mater Somerville
College's Media Network. The 2008 film which
cost $15 million to make grossed in excess
of $377 million in sales, won 8 Oscars and
made stars of Dev Patel and Frieda Pinto.

survey asks 'Are the Media Racist?' |
 The
New Statesman magazine has published the findings
of its research asking whether British Media
is racist. Ethnic minorities remain largely
absent from opinion pages, senior executive
roles and staff jobs within the British media,
according to statistics compiled by the magazine,
which undertook the research in the wake of
the Stephen Lawrence verdict last month.

Queen's New Year's Honours List is published
today, recognising the achievements of extraordinary
people across the UK. Among Asians honoured

a knighthood for the study of the translation
of DNA information into protein by ribosomes;
with CBEs for Professor Dinesh Kumar Makhan
